The vision for ArtsReady began to take root during our first Community Design Meeting held August 5-6 2009 in Atlanta, GA. Southern Arts Federation compiled a briefing document to prepare attendees. The brief includes: a short description of the project, needs assessment, meeting agenda, bios for the leadership team, as well as a list of attendees and attendee bios.
Doesn't this look like fun? Too bad we didn't get a video of the role-playing segment, BUT we did catch Malcolm in the act via photo. See the entire photo album.

I've attended quite a few of these community design workshops, and even though the basic methodology is identical, no two are the same. With ArtsReady, the photos can't do justice to the energy in the room, or to the tremendous collective knowledge, wisdom and experience that participants brought to the conversations and the design efforts. Many of the stories were harrowing, but the product of all those tales of destruction was creative in all the best senses of the word.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I came away with a new appreciation for the role of the arts in sustaining and healing distressed communities. It was a privilege to witness your work, and I look forward to seeing how your vision for "Kickstarting the Love" evolves as the project progresses. --Chris
